IN MEMORIAM

SUZY Q (10/17/05)

Our little Suzy Q was a dwarf Chow who was dumped out beside the highway and we're assuming that was because her last breeding hadn't taken.  She was 15" at the shoulder and 27 pounds and has to be shaved due to her horribly matted coat.

Given that she was a dwarf, she also had all the inherent health issues, such as hyperextended hind legs that had caused the vertebrae in her back to fuse.  She spent two years here with us with the typical Chow "I'm not afraid of anything" attitude and we think she was about 14 when he died.  We will miss her, as do the other dogs she hung out with.

RANGER

This very pretty boy was found running lose in the Tri-Cities.  He arrived here on a Friday after a visit to the vet, where he seemed to be in marvelous condition and was very excited to come here and play with the other dogs, while also getting lots of attention and food.  The following Thursday, he was horribly sick and we raced him to the vet, only to get a diagnosis of rampant parvo and despite our vet's best efforts, he died 36 hours later.  Our vet felt that given the speed at which this disease progressed, he had never had a parvo shot.

Ranger was only two years old when he died and I'd like to throttle the fool who allowed this to happen.  Bleaching six acres for three weeks was certainly an exciting way to spend my days......

PEEBLES

Peebles came to us from southern California, where they felt he was one of our rare breed Caucasian Mountain Dogs.  We never did manage to figure out precisely what breed he was, but it wasn't that.

At one point we thought we had the perfect home for him but he came back very quickly, but now he was loaded with fleas and ticks....we solved those issues for the poor guy and he lived his life out here with us.

WIDGET

(FROM THE HOUND HAGG RESCUE)

On one of the trips to the local shelter, we were taken back to a small cage where a 5 week old pup was being held.  She had been brought into the shelter as  "wandering at large"! HELLO THIS  PUP WAS 5 WEEKS OLD!!!  WANDERING???  Ok, I am calm now.
If you look at her front legs, they were twisted in the womb and look like they are on backwards.  This comes from bad breeding:  it's not so much a defect as not enough room for the pup to grow properly.  We had Widget for a very short time. 4 days.
We took her to our Vet, who looked at Widget, told us that the amount of surgery for this little one would be too hard on her. Her front legs would have had to be broken in 2 places on each leg. And her back legs would need to pick up the slack.  At this point, we found out that Widget had no hip sockets.
So Widget will be waiting for us when we cross the Rainbow Bridge, and I can picture her running.  Thank you Widget for the time you spent with us. For being so small,
you certainly made a lasting impression

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.   Matthew 25:40
